Singel Office Renovation

The Singel office renovation project asks a simple question: can a heritage building and modern renewable energy technology work together? The answer is a resounding yes.

This 18-century canal house went gas free without increasing the size of its electricity connection, all while preserving its character. This led to modern convectors being hidden behind custom timber panelling that matches the original wainscoting, as well as ultra-thin vacuum glazing installed in existing window frames, improving insulation without altering the façade.

The energy system is the star though. Combining a dual-source heat pump, deep ground loops, rooftop dry cooler, solar panels, battery storage, thermal buffer, and high-performance fan coils, the Singel office is a glimpse into the future of cities.

By integrating insulation, renewable generation, and intelligent energy management, the project fully overhauls a heritage building — proving that sustainability and history can coexist.
