Sailing yacht Zero sea trials #09: A glimpse inside the alarm system

Commissioning work continues for sailing yacht Zero and, this week, the engineering team focused on deep system integration and the vessel’s Alarm and Monitoring System (AMS).

Fundamentally, the team is systematically verifying thousands of input/output signals feeding into the central programmable logic controllers.

This means that every single point — which includes readings from a range of systems, such as domestic fresh water, hot water, and sewage — is tested one by one.

The team verifies that the signals come from the right systems and carry the correct identification tag. This is critical to do before departure, as this information can ensure any issues that arise can be fixed quickly and efficiently. Beyond this, the verification also ensures that Zero’s networks run smoothly and efficiently.

As these dockside checks wrap up, the team is eagerly anticipating the ultimate milestone: heading out to sea to test how the systems perform together on open water.
